Minnie Pridgen Obituary

Minnie Dunnavant Pridgen  94, had the joy of going to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 12, 2023. She was born and raised in Charlotte Court House, Va into a loving family of 5 Girls and 2 boys. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Lydia Grace Elder in 1999 and her loving husband Harper Pridgen in 2004. She is survived by two sisters, Francis Wilmouth, and Betty Cook. Those left to treasure her memory and carry on her legacy of faith include her three children Brenda Boggs (Jimmy), LTC (ret) James L. Pridgen (Carol) and Sudie Elder (Rudy), her 12 grandchildren, Corey Boggs (Amber), Jeremy Boggs (Amanda), Ryan Boggs (Stefanie), James Pridgen Jr, Todd Pridgen, (Jennifer), Rebecca Reitz (Marky), Christopher Pridgen, Rudy Elder III (Sarah), Quincy Elder (Jessica), Isaac Elder (Riley) , Emma Elder, and Tessa Elder. She delighted in her 21 Great Children and one great great granddaughter who lovingly called her "Nanny P".

Minnie graduated from Longwood College in 1952 and taught school for many years in Chesterfield Co. She was a longtime member of Weatherford Memorial Baptist Church in South Richmond where she served as preschool director for over 30 years as well as Director of their Day Care. She loved children and it was her greatest delight to teach them Bible verses and songs about Jesus. Minnie continued to teach children when she went to Jahnke Road Baptist Church, teaching her last Vacation Bible School class there at age 90. After moving to Blackstone, VA in 2015 she enjoyed participating in the WMU at Blackstone Baptist faithfully leading the monthly Missions Prayer calendar until she was 92. She prayed daily for missionaries until her last days. Spending time in God's Word and praying were an important part of her day. She was blessed to have a clear mind, an incredibly sharp memory and grateful heart to the very end, saying often "God just keeps blessing and blessing". Minnie loved gardening, working crossword puzzles, playing games on her Smartphone and spending time with her family, but most of all she loved Jesus. Before anyone would leave her company, she would tell them "Don't leave Christ out of your life." She said that often and meant it with all of her heart. This is the legacy she would leave to all of us who loved her so much. Surely, she has heard her Savior say, "Well done good and faithful servant".
