Millard Lee Bates Jr., 86, departed this life on February 5, 2024, in Keysville, Virginia. Born on March 17, 1937, in the serene town of Farmville, Virginia, Millard, affectionately known to many as Odaboe, lived a life marked by the love and respect of those who knew him. Millard had two daughters; Angie and Kathy Jo. Two sons; Ricky and Larry. One brother; Leonard Charles "Bud". Two sisters; Melva "Doll" and Myrtle "Sis". Five grandchildren; Chelsey, Matthew, Olivia, Katelyn,  and Gerald.  Two great grandchildren; Logan and Aspen Wayne. Three nephews Millard Larry (Dixie);, Buster, and Butch. One neice; Sandra. Two great nieces Pamela and Linda. As the seasons changed and years passed, Odaboe's journey was one of quiet dignity and gentle strength. His life was a testament to the values he held dear, a reflection of the steadfast character and unwavering spirit that guided him through his days. In his 86 years, Odaboe witnessed the world change in myriad ways, yet his essence remained a constant source of comfort and reliability to his family and friends. His passing leaves a void in the fabric of the community that cannot be easily mended, yet his memory will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to have shared in his life's path. The family of Millard Lee Bates Jr. wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to all who have offered their support and kindness during this time of bereavement. In keeping with his unassuming nature, a private service will be held to honor a life well-lived and a man well-loved. In remembrance of Odaboe, let us cherish the moments we hold dear, the laughter shared, and the wisdom imparted. May his soul find everlasting peace, and may his legacy endure through the lives of those he touched.
