John Adam Zaun

John “Jimmy” Adam Zaun, most commonly known as Granddaddy, 85, of Amelia, Virginia, passed away on November 17, 2022, peacefully, surrounded by family.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Phillip and Mary Grace Zaun; son-in-law, Buster Gough; and daughter-in-law, Jennifer Zaun.  He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Lelia Monday Zaun; and their dogs, Tucker and Winston; children, Bryon Zaun, Donna Gough, James (Frances) Zaun, Sandra Zaun and Tracy (Damon) Milliner; 12 grandchildren, Stephanie (JC), Scott (Tabitha), Karen (Andy), Matthew, Mandy (Ryan), Chris, Beeba (Jimmy), Megan, Grant, Hunter, Hailey and Madison; nine great-grandchildren (soon to be 10), Walker, Colbie, Carter, Brayden, Abigail, Caleb, Kolton, Nathan and Waylon; three siblings- Henry “Sonny” Zaun, Mary Ellen (Don) Crady and Evelyn Kelly; and lots of nieces and nephews.

   Granddaddy was the owner and operator of John A. Zaun Plumbing and Heating for over 50 years.  He also dedicated his life to his beloved Black Angus cattle farm, Rock Castle Farm. He was a lifelong New York Yankees fan and enjoyed living life, always working outdoors, farming and gardening, only taking a break to spend time with his family, fish the Chesapeake Bay, or hunt on his farm. He was a very proud father and grandfather and cherished his family and many friends. Granddaddy will be missed dearly by his beloved family, friends, and loyal companions, Tucker and Winston (#1 Squirrel Dog).

   The family will receive friends from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, November 20, at the Chesterfield Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 14301 Ashbrook Parkway, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 21.  Interment will follow in Trinity Memorial Gardens, Rice, Va.
