Edith M Eppes

Edith M. Eppes was called to rest on Friday, June 16, 2023, after a brief battle with cancer at her home in Fredericksburg, Virginia surrounded by her loving family.

She was preceded in death by her father, Alfred L. Hobbs; her mother, Lena G. Hobbs; and her brother Kelvin A. Hobbs Sr.
Edith was born to the union of the late Lena Hobbs and Alfred Hobbs in Nottoway County on January 5, 1949. She attended public school in Nottoway County and went on to attend Norfolk State University. Edith accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and attended Poplar Lawn Baptist Church. She was always delighted at the opportunity to share scripture with those around her and would often testify to the goodness of God’s grace and mercy.

Throughout her life, Edith accomplished everything that she set her mind to. She was a diligent, hardworking woman who would give anything to someone in need. Edith’s mission in life was always to encourage and help others. She enjoyed volunteering and helping those less fortunate. She would create baskets and packages of goodies to give out as a way to help brighten someone’s day. Edith was a servant of God and never met anyone whose life she didn’t impact.

Edith worked at Fort Lee in Petersburg, Va. for 25 years and retired in the late 90’s. After retirement, she worked part-time for Longwood University in the Department of International Studies. She found pleasure working at Longwood University as well as floral arranging, jewelry crafts, putting her “Martha Stewart” touch on home décor, and doting over her pride and joy, Dinky, her pet Dachshund. Edith was a spirited woman who enjoyed her family and the comforts of home. She loved online shopping, putting her own touch on home-cooked meals, and relaxing with a good book.

She leaves to mourn two daughters, Keila Jennings and Vicki Eppes-Ward (Robert Ward); two grandchildren, Candice Tunstall and Joshua Ward; niece, Khourie Hobbs-Jones; nephew, Kelvin “Chip” Hobbs (Keasha Hobbs); grandnieces, Sadie, Kacee, Kai, and Khloe; grandnephews, Braylon, and Ellis; and a host of cousins, family and friends.

A visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at Affinity Funeral Service, 2720 Enterprise Parkway, Richmond, VA 23294. A service will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
