Jerry Carlin Heifner was born in Cleveland, Ohio and died July 5, 2025 at Centra Southside Hospital after a brief illness at the age of 84.

He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Lewis Heifner; his mother, Ivy Beebe Heifner, and his sister, Sheila Heifner.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara Jo Landes Heifner; daughter, Laura Rowland and her husband, William E. Rowland; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He graduated from Fork Union Military Academy, attended Hampden-Sydney College and went into the Army. He worked for AT&T for 26 years at Spears Mountain, Buckingham County and Goddard Space Center, Greenbelt, Maryland. He also worked numerous jobs, including Buckingham Correctional Center for nine years.

We wish to thank all who have cared for him over the years, especially Centra Southside Community Hospital and his caregivers, Virginia Brown and Tracy Bryant. We also wish to thank the Buckingham County Rescue Squad for their professional help during all the times they came to his aide.

His bright smile, love and determination will be missed by all.

A visitation will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025 from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. at the Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn.  Military Funeral Honors will take place at 1:45 p.m.  Interment will follow in the Trinity Memorial Gardens in Rice.
