Mr. James "Tick" Henry Towns, Jr. entered eternal rest on Sunday, August 2, 2020. He departed this earthly life after years of love, hard work, and devotion to his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, and friends. Born to the late James Henry Townes and Catherine Townes in Amelia, VA, on December 12, 1953, James, affectionately known as "Tick," attended Amelia County Public Schools and was then employed by G L Howard until 2013. On October 19, 1985, Tick was joined in holy matrimony with the love of his life, Mattie May Pegram. Together they raised five beautiful daughters. As the years went on, their family continued to grow as they welcomed grandchildren and great-grandchildren into their home. Being the fun-loving father and grandfather he was, Tick gave nicknames to each of his daughters, their spouses, and his grandchildren. Although it was a lot of them, he had no problems remembering each one, and they had no problems answering when he called. Tick enjoyed working out in the yard and keeping his grass neatly cut. However, despite all of the hard work he did with his hands, he took great pride in making sure his nails were always immaculate and hands stayed "baby soft." Tick was a man of few words, but had a strong presence, and was always a pillar of strength for his family, even when he was not feeling his best. To know him was to love him, and he will be greatly missed by those whose lives he touched. He was preceded in death by his father, James Henry Townes, and his grandparents, Nelson & Pinky Royall. Tick leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife, Mattie May Towns, his mother, Catherine Townes; 5 daughters: Tammi "Head" Delaney (Kevin "Bobblehead") Tara "Roc" Booker (Sam "Booker"), Tonika "Nika" Pegram, Danielle "Coley" Pegram, and Sharita "Rita" Towns; 14 grandchildren: Kevin Jr. "Giant" (Anjie), Arman "Alien", Melik "George" (Diamond ), Brandon "Doodle" (Savannah), Kierra "Peanut" (Kahlil), Ametria "Double D", Kenyata "Pie", Dantwaun "Black", Akeyla "Glow", Dantre "Yellow", Sayveonia "Baby", Jacque "Patches", Maryann Crawley, and Bernadette Crawley; 8 great-grandchildren: Ayvin Drew Cruz Delaney, Marquis Crawley, Adrienne Cruz Delaney, Kaedin Cruz Delaney, My'Asia Crawley, James Jackson, Isaiah Crawley, and Aaliyah Crawley-Coleman; 4 Siblings: Laramie (Janie)Townes, Shirley Bragg, Anne Royall, and Eric Royall; Dedicated friends: William Bragg, Bill Crews, Bill Foster, Glenn Urquheart, Charles and Sherry Mann, Kenny Black, and Bernard Crawley and a host of other family and friends.
